Itineraries
Day 1
Arrive transfer to zziwa rhino sanctuary then to murchsion falls NP.
Arrive early morning and directly transfer to Zziwa rhino sanctuary for a tour of the rhinos and then bird. some bird species we shall see include bat hawk, african scop`s owl, cattle egret among others.
In the afternoon, transfer to murchsion falls NP, have a game drive and get to see animals like chimpazees, red-tailed monkey, giraffes, buffaloes and more. shall do birding.
Murchsion falls NP hosts over 400 bird species which include Black-billed barbet, Black-headed gonolek, Black-headed lapwing, Blue-headed coucal, Denham’s bustard, Eastern grey plantain-eater, Giant kingfisher, Goliath heron
Day 2 & 3
Boat ride at murchsion falls & transfer to kibaale forest NP
After early morning breakfast, set off to bird at the bottom of the falls using a boat. its a great experience on boat and doing birding giving a great view of birds like the shoebill stork, Speckle-fronted weaver, Squacco heron, Swamp flycatcher, White-browed sparrow-weaver etc.
Next day bird to kibaale NP. check into a lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4
Bird bigodi wetland sanctuary & chimp trekking
start day off early morning with birding in bigodi wetland sanctuary. It is located south of kanyanchu the main centre of kibaale national park a home to 200 bird species making it a perfect for the bird watching travellers. Make your way through the swamp on raised wooden walkways. It is mainly known to harbour blue turaco, yellow-billed, grey-throated, white casqued hornbill. You will also do chimpanzee trekking and also get chance to see the rare sitatunga . funds collected are used to support the community. At `he end of the day go back to your lodge for dinner & overnight stay.
Day 5
Semuliki national park
Early morning after breakfast, set off for semuliki forest national park which is located close to the D.R.C border south of lake Albert across the floor of semuliki valley below the kijura escarpment. With packed lunch shall start with chimp trekking here an experienced guide who will to where to find them. shall see the sempaya hotsprings.
later in the evening shall do bird watching.
This park is a true birders haven with about 40% bird species of uganda birding destinations. some of the commonly spotted birds include ground hornbill, the shoebill can also be found on a boat safari along L.Albert. The boat trip is an exciting experience that crosses the lake with stunning background view of the misty blue mountains.
Day 6
Ruwenzori national park
After a very early morning breakfast, head out to Rwenzori mountains national park. it boosts with over217 bird species. shalll spot unique species of birds and they can be spotted in montane forest. Birds to be encountered include robins, sunbirds, bee eaters, bearded vultures, black eagles etc.
At the edge of the mountain, there is savannah grassland which is a home to a variety of mammal species that include blue monkeys, bush buck,rwenzori otter etc
Day 7
Game drive at Queen Elizabeth NP
Start the day early morning and bird to Queen Elizabeth NP. It is a home for over 200 lions including the intriguing tree climbing lions. over 490 species of birds been sighted in the park.
shall start with a game drive. it allows to see several mammals like lions buffaloes , kobs,
A guided nature walk in maramagambo forest while spotting small crater lakes, birds, primates like vervet monkeys, baboons
Day 8
Bird watching and cultural tour
Early in the morning after break fast, go birding in park. Among the birds to look out for include yellow throated cuckoo swamp flycatcher, spurwinged, sedge warbles, papyrus gonolek northern pochard, greater flaming, grey kestrel etc
A boat cruise for contuined bird watching along the kazinga channel.
later in the evening can have a visit to the kikorongo equator cultural group to watch and participate in traditional dances, drama and fire making. and more.
Day 9 & 10
Bird Bwindi impenetrable and gorilla trekking
Bwindi Impenetrable Conservation Area lies in the rugged Kigezi highlands of South Western Uganda, protecting a continuum of forest that ranges from montane to low land areas. It is this altitudinal variation, combined with its location within the Albertine Rift that results in Bwindi impenetrable being the richest forest in East Africa in terms of its trees, butterflies and birds. Bwindi is a home over half of the remaining Mountain Gorillas populations in the World.
Bwindi is a bird watchers’ haven; it holds 400 species of birds. The forest has 10 of the 26 globally threatened species in Uganda, five of which are vulnerable. Bwindi has recorded 24 of the locally Albertine Rift endemic species in the country and some, such as African Green Broadbill, Chapin’s Flycatcher and Shelley’s Crimson-wing , Purple Breasted Sunbird and others.
Bwindi national park has 76 of 144 Guinea – Congo Forest biome species that occur in Uganda, recorded especially in the North sector. The site also qualifies for Afro tropical highland biome species with 68 of 86, and for the Lake Victoria biome with 4 of 12 species. The park is blessed with 90% of all albertine rift endemics, difficult or impossible to see in any other part of East Africa and seven IUCN red data listed species. An experienced birder watcher can identify over 150 species in a day.
Ruhiija is likely to be one of the highlights of any bird watching safari to Uganda with excellent birding in spectacular surroundings. The Birds are many here and somehow easy to see; many bird species associating in mixed feeding flocks that are active throughout the day. An early start offers the best chance of finding the striking Handsome Francolin, Cinnamon-chested bee-eater, western Green Tinkerbird, Mountain and yellow-streaked Greenbuls, Regal Sunbird, Black headed waxibill, Grauer’s warbler, Dusky Crimsonwing, White starred robin, Rwenzori Night jar, Mountain marked and chestnut-throated Apalises, Rwenzori batis, white-tailed crested Flycatcher and many more.
Day 11
Birding mgahinga national park
Early morning bird your way to the park and the entire day birding in the park. Birds that will be seen include black kite, waxbills, blue headed coucal, olive pigeon, white-necked raven among others.
Day 12
Bird to lake mburo NP
Early breakfast and drive to lake mutanda for morning canoe ride and visit the mutanda island. Bird all the way to lake mburo NP its a 4-5 hours drive. check in at your booked to refresh and dinner. Do a night game drive.
Day 13
Birding Lake Mburo NP
After breakfast , head to the park for an entire day of birding. Birds to be seen include red headed lover birds rufous-bellied heron, long tailedcist cola, shoe bill, yellow-breasted apalis, white-winged tit, green wood hoopoe, brown parrot etc
Day 14
Transfer to Entebbe
Bird all the way bak to Entebbe depending on time of departure at the airport.
